An independent roleplay blog for Rann Deimos, an original character. To those who know him he was once widely regarded as "The Mad Scientist" - not at all a very flashy or unique title, but properly suiting nevertheless.

An expert in magi-technology, his fields of study were quite diverse and more often than not the stuff of horror stories. Those days seem to be behind him now, and he seems to have found a calm he didn't possess in his youth, but that is hardly to say he doesn't still... dabble, here and there.

He wears the face of the magnificent Xerxes Break from Pandora Hearts, who all around was just the perfect choice for this old, beloved OC of mine.
Feel free to send him asks and interact with him - he loves to play around with new people.

Is he really blind?

“Poetic and turbulent Edo?” a short laugh escaped him and he shook his head a little, “Ah, I’ve never heard it referred to so… romantically.” Still he supposed he had no say in who came and went and for what purpose, though his explanation only let him more curious. If only a bit vaguely.

“Well, we’ve got plenty of horizons here, and plenty of conflict. So I suppose you’ve wandered to the right place.” Why anyone would want to come here for such things… he was unsure, but again, not up to him why people came here.

"Either way, I intend to make the most of my time here," he shrugged. "Should I assume this, Shinsengumi of yours, has a base of operations of some sort? I’ll need to better acquaint myself with your status… in terms of both power and opposition, to get a better idea of how I can be of assistance to you." Even while he spoke all-business, the clownish smile and lazy look in his eye never dissipated.

He knew, of course, it wasn’t easy to just go out and trust an outsider with whom you’d only just met - and personally? He also knew he didn’t give off a particularly comfortable or reassuring aura, at least not to most. And yet, having only just arrived, he hardly had any tricks up his sleeve…

The Quietest Place on Earth Will Drive You Insane Within 45 Minutes
There’s a small room in Minnesota thatblocks out 99% of all external sound. That’s an impressive number! Also impressive: nobody can take more than 45 minutes alone in the room before they go nuts.
The Daily Mail describes Orfield Labs’ anechoic chamber—perfect for making extremely sensitive audio measurements. But also perfect for sending you into a hallucinatory hell so hellacious you’ll need a chair:

‘When it’s quiet, ears will adapt. The quieter the room, the more things you hear. You’ll hear your heart beating, sometimes you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling loudly. ‘In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.’ And this is a very disorientating experience. Mr Orfield explained that it’s so disconcerting that sitting down is a must. He said: ‘How you orient yourself is through sounds you hear when you walk. In the anechnoic chamber, you don’t have any cues. You take away the perceptual cues that allow you to balance and manoeuvre. If you’re in there for half an hour, you have to be in a chair.’

That sounds swell. Just the serene quiet of you, your thoughts, and the unceasing pounding of the human heart. Your brain can’t take it, apparently, and begins to fabricate sounds that aren’t really there—completely delusional noises meant to block out the churning of your own horrid biomass.

"I would say much the same. You’re not quite one of those oni, and yet… Not quite human, either, are you?” Well, he’d only met a few oni thus far to compare, but this one was quite intriguing.

Didn’t really know how to greet this one, she would only completely stand there like a ditz for a moment unable to realize. Her lack of knowledge of the language would get her in trouble but it’s quite alright! Humans like physical contact right?! What’s the harm in that, a wave given in a greeting.

What a curious young woman… His left eye was practically burning at the sight of her. A pleasant burning, but burning no less.

"Well hello there, and just what have we here?" he leaned a little closer to inspect her, brushing some hair aside, giving the faintest, brief view of that glimmering red, left, sphere. "You aren’t from around here, are you?"
